Dirt Devil Purpose for Pets Canister

Really gets pet hair but a bit awkward
For my 800 square-foot apartment with tile floors this thing works perfectly when I'm vacuuming. I have a cat that sheds quite a bit and other vacuums have not really done as complete a job as this one at getting all the hair and dander. The long tube and extendable arm are both helpful, especially for getting under/behind furniture and allowing you to get farther into a room without having to unplug the vacuum and move.
The biggest problem is the weird shape which makes it hard to store and especially the lack of an attachments holder anywhere on the vacuum itself. Additionally, the arm has a place for two of the attachments but they don't stay very well and sometimes fall out onto the ground while I'm vacuuming. But the convenience of rolling this thing around and emptying the whole canister with one push of a button is really nice.

Works well, but is not perfect
The Dirt Devil Purpose for Pets Canister Vacuum works well once you have it set up to your liking. From unboxing to first use took about 15 minutes. The vacuum comes with lots of attachments, that seem a little overwhelming at first. I actually had to look at the set up instructions to understand the function of each attachment. I wish Dirt Devil put labels on the attachments themselves for easy reference.
I have a short coated hound dog (short thick bristles) and a flat coated (long thin bristles) retriever. The Dirt Devil was able to pick up both types of fur with ease using the pet attachment. I was able to easily remove fur from the crevices of a leather couch and also a velvet chair. The pet attachment has a little brush at the end, to help pull the fur off the fabric and I was amazed how much fur was on the side of the chair.
Using the hose alone, I was able to get dust and fur out from under my couch. I have hardwood floors and the hose suction...
It really SUCKS! But no attachment storage?
We have a dog who sheds in large tufts of tumbleweeds. They drift around the house, getting caught in corners, under furniture, and attached to various fixtures. No ordinary vacuum will do, so we usually opt for a "pet" vacuum.
What we like about the vacuum:
- Suction Control - Sometimes you don't need to go full tilt!
- Floor attachment - It glides effortlessly over just about any surface.
- Effectiveness - This thing pulled up all kinds of pet hair as well as larger objects like cheerios, etc within 2 passes.
- Size - It's light and compact enough for even my wife to drag around the house, thus ensuring she shares in the vacuuming responsibilities.
What we don't like:
- Canister - The canister lever to release and empty is not in a good location and usually gets our hands all dirty. Also, if you have pets, it doesn't fully empty if it's got pet hair inside without sticking your hand in to scoop out clumps of trapped hair in the inner...
