This is a WINNER!!
I have owned this wonderful product for nearly 4 three years and it's still going strong. Our GreatRoom (kitchen, living & dining room areas) has hardwood floors and carpets and the Oreck handles everything with ease. I really love the detachable feature. With one button ease I'm able to remove the head and get crumbs around the refrigerator and prep areas, dust along the edges and get crumbs in the drawers. Why wipe when you can vacuum? Oreck's powerful suction picks up sugar spills on the counter and floor in a flash and the beater-bar does a nice job on low profile rugs. I use it everyday after the grandkids leave to freshen up and it keeps a charge for nearly a week. It won't replace your big vac but it will save you dragging it out for quick pickups. It's so light weight that my 3 yr old granddaughter even insists on picking up her own messes. The broom stores easily too. It's well constructed and looks as good today as it did when it was brand new.

vacuum got no suck!
I've had my Oreck "electric broom" for about 4 years now and it never ceases to underwhelm me. It has never had much suction at best, but if you really want to disappoint, try the hand held dust buster attachment by itself. I could do a better job with my hands and a dust pan. I guess i've only put up with it for this long because it was an attractive little vacuum and i kept hoping..... So I'm now disallusioned and am looking for another model stick vacuum so i can get rid of this thing altogether. Look somewhere other than Oreck for your stick vacuum! I like my regular upright Oreck, though, but their cannister vac isn't very good either.
Low Suction and Battery Life
Battery Life is only 15 Minutes and then requires charging.
The Suction is not very strong.
I would not buy this product again.

Awesome and EASY to use....SUPER SUCTION!
I love this vacuum. I just got it yesterday and I put it together and had it going within minutes. I vacuumed my whole house (2500 square feet) in 15 minutes. It's lightweight and the suction is awesome. I also used it on my furniture to get pet hair and it worked awesome. I am a cleaning lady and I can't wait to use it on Monday at my first client's house!

The 50 foot cord is great because you just plug into the middle of your house and you never have to unplug, just keep going until it's done. It even works on plush carpet as it's a hard plastic, it just runs over it sucking all the dirt up!

Downside: it doesn't have a horsetail brush for wood floors as to not scratch them. Looking for one of those right now!

Cheap Oreck Magnesium Upright Vacuum Cleaner For sale

Weighing about 7.7 lbs, without the cord, it is the lightest weight full-powered vacuum Oreck has ever made.

Good performance, high price, annual maintenance cost.
I had always shied away from Orecks in the past. I have friends who absolutely adore them, but as they explained their experience with Oreck I was always unsure it was a good idea for me to buy an Oreck for myself.

Why?

Well, there are two reasons really.
1) Regular maintenance despite a higher cost up front. Orecks cost more than most other vacuums as a rule. But once you pay the premium price, you have to take it to an Oreck service center annually to replace motor parts, gaskets, and belts. This is not the case with any other vacuum brand that I am aware of. Of course, my friends had their Oreck vacuum for years and years, but over the lifetime of the vacuum they continued to shell out money on something they already purchased.
2) Orecks are never rated very highly by Consumer Reports. I've never seen any Oreck model in the top ten vacuums in independent testing of 50 vacuums.

Now, my Oreck fanboy friends never like it when I point...

Best vacuum cleaner I have owned
I was always a bit skeptical of Oreck with their bowling ball commercial. I was given a chance to try out the Oreck Magnesium and didn't know what to expect. I find myself pleasantly surprised.

First, the Magnesium is very light. The cord almost feels heavier than the entire vacuum cleaner itself. Set up took less than a minute. The Magnesium comes almost assembled - you just have to attached the handle, which doesn't require tools and takes a couple seconds.

The rest of the construction feels solid, apart from the plastic tube near the back. I wish that was made of the same material as the handle. The bag and zipper parts also feel well made. I never owned a bagged vacuum cleaner before, but Oreck's bagged system actually works well. The bag seals itself, so there's no mess (unlike with my bagless cleaner that ends up spreading dust around when I dump it out). I'm also a sucker for the electric blue accent color of the bag portion.

As for...
There are things to like about this vacuum... and things not to like...
Positive impressions:

1. It is very light and easy to push around the carpet, thus making it easier to vacuum larger rooms without issue. This will be a good unit for people with physical limitations.
2. The beater seems very strong, so strong, in fact, that it almost seems to be self propelled. This could actually end up being a negative, as you might not spend enough time vacuuming.
3. You can lean the vacuum down flat and it can get under furniture that most other vacuum cleaners can't.
4. It has a fairly long cord, allowing you to clean more carpet without unplugging and moving the cord.

Negative impressions:

1. No hand tools at all. You will need something other than this if you want to clean couches, tight corners, curtains, etc.
2. The cord is about 8 feet shorter than the cord on the Dyson vacuum that I have.
3. Uses bags instead of canister. The bags will add up over time and will add to the price of the...

Product Features :

• 30 foot cord means fewer stops and speedier vacuuming
• Constructed from incredibly durable magnesium, it delivers all of the strength and durability that you've come to expect in an Oreck vacuum.
• Two speeds: high speed great for carpets, lower speed gentle enough for oriental and Persian rugs
• HEPA inner bag captures at least 99.97% of particles at .3 microns from the air passing through it, including pollen, mold, dust and animal dander
• Has received Carpet & Rug Institute Seal of Approval

Best Oreck Commercial COMP9H HEPA Compacto 9 Canister Vacuum, 1.6 HP On Sale

The Oreck Commercial COMP9H HEPA Compacto 9 canister vacuum has an 8-foot vacuum hose, a 50-foot power cord, and a 1.6-horsepower, two-stage, two-speed motor. This canister vacuum cleaner is quieter and easier to maneuver than typical upright vacuums, and its head can be used to clean stairs, drapes, and under furniture. The vacuum operates at a sound level of 60 decibels. A 50-foot power cord enables it to cover a larger area without changing outlets than vacuum cleaners with shorter cords. This product meets U.S. Department of Energy Standard 3020 for High-Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filters, which remove at least 99.97 percent of airborne particles that are 0.3 micrometers or greater in diameter. very nice vacuum
love the way it glides across my hardwood/tile and low rugs. one thing i liked about this vacuum was the type of rubber wheels it has. they are not the plastic type that will scratch up the hardwood or clunk loudly as i pull across my tile floors. the body of the vacuum cleaner is surrounded by the same type of rubber, giving the vacuum a rubber bumber, so that it doesn't scratch/mar my walls or furniture when i pull it forward. the power suction is supreme! i love to vacuum while the sun shines on the floor and i see all the dust being vacuumed UP, not swirling around the air like my last vacuum. i also like the long hose and the low profile vacuum head made for hardwood floors. the vacuum head gets under every piece of furniture i have, even the side table with 3" clearance and the hose allows me to clean under both couches without having to drag the canister too close and have it be in the way. the hose is so much nicer than pushing and pulling an upright vacuum...

Great suction!
I ordered this because I just had my hardwood floors restored and could no longer use an upright vacuum cleaner on them. This has attachments for both carpets and hard surface floors. The attachment for the carpets lifts my area rugs off the floor! This is a little heavier than I expected and since the suction is so powerful I filled up my bag fairly quickly. It only comes with one bag so make sure you order the replacement bags when you order the vacuum cleaner. With two teenage boys, a dog, two cats and a husband it works wonders! However it did not come with any information and I still have been unable to locate a filter for this vacuum. It didn't even come with a 1-800 # so when I called oreck.com's # they said they were not authorized to sell this product. Hopefully I will be able to find a filter soon.

For all that your upright ain't built for!
This vac is powerful and versatile. If you are unlike a prior reviewer and place the strap over your head so that the strap crosses your chest, you know like a normal person, then this thing carries like a champ and cannot crash to the floor, geez!. I'm 6'3" and I do not pretend it's a floor substitute. I have a bad back so I can't even pretend to kid myself. It's fabulous to carry around for all the oddball vac jobs like blinds, dusting, any area unreachable with a floor machine, behind the whatnot shelf or frig. Vac your bedding and your furniture with ease and power. There's a tool for everything, including the floor. The floor tool is there if you have a quickie job and do not want to haul out the upright...ok? The extender tube is smoothly notched every two inches so can be easily shortened or extended from 18 to 32 inches in mere seconds. The flex-tube is very sturdy & flexible, almost like a real slinky. It's great! I highly recommend this machine. IT'S NOT AN UPRIGHT...

Very irritated!
I am very unhappy with my Ultimate Handheld Vac. The power is wonderful, but the design of the vacuum is terrible. The plastic hose is too short and I had to order an extra piece. For any one who is tall or has a bad back, this is not the proper length. I can deal with that and the new extension I had to order. My major complaint is the design. The balance is off, the strap is too short and if you put it criss cross over your shoulder, it chokes you. If you just put it over your arm, it tends to fall off and crash to the floor. The area where the accordian hose attaches to the plastic tubing needs an elbow joint. The accordian hose bends too much and is in danger splitting at some point. If I hold my hand over that area to protect it, it pinches my hand. I am just so irritated with it all. The pick up is wonderful.
Good piece, but depends on what you want it for.
This vacuum works GREAT on pet hair! I use it on my couches, chairs and throw pillows. It is also good for dusting in high places. I agree with the other review that the hose it too short, but that is ONLY if you are trying to use it to vacuum your floors. If you do want it for the floors you should purchase the extra hose...unless you are under 5 feet! That said, the main reason that I deducted a star is due to the noise. My upright Oreck is so nice and quiet, but this canister is LOUD! Anyone purchasing this one needs to have ear plugs. Not a huge deal, but it would be nice if ear protection was not mandatory.

Product Features :

• Portable and lightweight vacuum system perfect for cleaning floors as well as hard to reach areas

Discontinued vacuum.
Purchased this from the Oreck web site in January of 2011. The suction is pretty good at picking up dirt from the seats and carpeting. I've used it lot on our two cars and was pleased with my purchase. The filter was getting extremely dirty and when I tried to order a new filter I was told that this model has been discontinued. They now have another car vac with a headlight and uses a different filter than the one I bought. So here I have a perfectly good car vacuum, that I like, but can't buy a filter for it ... so guess it will be going in the trash. I've called several vacuum stores around my area and no one has filters for this vacuum. If I could purchase a filter for this vac I would give it a five star rating because I do like all the features of this model.

Used Twice - It's squeling like it's on it's last breath !
Breath.....what breath....suction is weak....not good for 'short hair' dog hair....might pick up bird seed during first pass. Made in China - just another product from China in my long list of 'broken-down' products from China that lack basic Quality Control. It would cost me more to return it (time, cost, materials, gas, etc)than the product is worth! Ergo, make a decent product, Oreck.....ya' just ripped me off.....and I learned a lesson!
Great little Vac
Works great for my car. Super long cord and powerful enough for regular clean ups. The small tools are great for tiny cracks where food seems to land.

• 15-foot cord lets you reach into the trunk and get at the floors and seats

Powerful and lightweight
We've recently replaced all of the carpeting in our home with hardwoods. We've had a Oreck upright for a long time and really liked it but the brushes kept throwing stuff away from the vacuum on the hardwoods. We looked around and several other canister vacuums before purchasing this one. We really love it, it picks up cat hair and litter extremely well as well as anything else we put in front of it. We also purchase the vacuum powered power brush to use with it for furniture and it also works for a while. My only word of caution is be careful when buying bags for it because less you buy the correct one they will leak inside of the vacuum!

I Like this Vacuum
I don't understand why this vac doesn't get more attention here on Amazon. I kept dismissing it because there was very little info and the one star review. It was three times the price of the Eureka 71B that I was considering as my top choice.

Eureka 71B Hand-Held Vacuum

After some availability problems for the 71B I came to realize I didn't really want or need the roller brush on my quick use hand held vac. We have a lot of long hair in our family and I would be always cutting it out of the roller brush, like I have to do with our large main carpet vac.

I reconsidered my price range and looked at the Hoover Porta Power and the Oreck XL Pro that I am reviewing here.

This vacuum sucks but in a good way. :)
I have 2 Orecks at my house and wanted a small canister vacuum for my second home. In spite of the fact that there was only one review and it was 1/5 I purchased this unit and am happy. The flexible tube is 24 inches long and extends to 32 inches and the extension tube is 19 inches but extends to 30 inches so that's a full 5 feet of reach, and the unit is hanging from your shoulder at waist height. In case you don't figure it out there is a button on the tube to allow the extension to open to full-length. I'm over 6 feet tall and can use the crevice tool on the floor with no problems and without leaning over. It would be nice if it had come with a few replacement bags but not a deal breaker.Oreck Xl

Oreck PKBB12DW Super-Deluxe Compact Canister Bags
This product is an original item from Oreck and works for the specific canister that I own. and got it for a great price.
Why I love my Oreck Super Deluxe Compact Camister Bags
These gorgeous mint green vacuum bags are so easy to install that cleaning out the old one is not worthwhile. The improved performance of a clean bag is noticable in the Tornado like suction. Now, even the heavy bowling balls are not too great a challenge for my Oreck. Of course it is better suited to lifting dirt and dust but ya never know when a pesky bowling ball will roll under the sofa. The one thing that is for certain, it will always happen when the kids are not home to retreive it. Yes, the Oreck Super Deluxe Compact Camister Bags are a blessing in disguise.

• Double walled with one micro filter.

FRIEZE CARPET CAN FINALLY BE VACUUMED!
My uprights simply would not work on frieze carpeting and I read about this Oreck Conquest Pro and how good it was supposed to be on frieze carpets and decided to give it a try. After one hours use this is my opinion.

It arrived well packaged with all pieces. The instructions on assemby and use were easy to understand. The floor brush worked great on my hardwoods and tile. The brush worked great on my upholstered furniture and my cat tree. The power head worked wonderful on my long shag rugs and on all my frieze carpeting. I like the lighted head which helps vacuuming in closets and under beds. It has a powerful suction and quickly sucked up the cat litter from my tile floors. I was pleased with the extension wand and found it easily adjusted to where I was vacuuming. Changing from one head to another was accomplished very easily. The best thing about it is being able to vacuum my frieze carpeting without having the machine lock up or the belt catch on fire or come...

Not For Plush Carpet
We just received our Oreck Quest Pro Canister vacuum today and were so excited. It is easily assembled, although it is very heavy and requires good strength to carry it upstairs. The cord seems short and pulled out of the electrical socket twice during my initial use. The most disturbing aspect is that the vacuum won't budge without holding your breath, tightening your stomach (good old valsalva), and forcing the vacuum head through our new carpet. We have new, Mohawk frieze carpet which is like the old shag carpet but thinner threads. Anyway, we just gave up. I could barely push it through the carpet, and my wife tried for less than 30 seconds. I'm sure that this vacuum is great if you have a flat carpet or hardwood/tile flooring. But if you're looking for something to vacuum thick carpets, this is not the vacuum for you. We enjoyed our Oreck XL for years and thought this might work. But neither can handle the thicker piles in newer carpet. We're having to return this...
OK So far
I bought this vacuum a couple of weeks ago. It seems very well put togther and feels very solid. I had to buy some extra attachments because I didn't like the shape of the brush attachment that stows on board. The powerhead seems OK and the included hard floor brush has horse hair bristles and attached wheels which is a nice touch. At first, the cord rewind was not always working well but it suddenly seems to have corrected itself and now it is working perfectly. I have 2 weeks left on the 30 day trial, but as of now I think I am keeping it. The suction is very strong, by the way.

Product Features :

• Powered brush roll
• Variable suction allows you to lower the suction for delicate surfaces like drapes and oriental rugs
• Six settings adjust for different carpet pile height
• Automatic cordwinder

Christmas Gift
I received this canister PetVac as a 2009 x-mas gift from my mother. As I have two indoor dogs who both shed (64lb shepherd/lab mix and a 49lb blue heeler), so I have to run the vacuum almost daily. Here are the pros and cons I discovered with this vacuum after using it three times. Pros: easy to assemble out of the box, only took about 5 minutes. Great suction on low pile carpet/area rugs, upholstery, tile and wood/pergo flooring. The bagless canister is large and is easy to remove/replace from vac and easy to dump out. Attachments were easy to remove and replace with different ones. Very light weight vacuum. Cord winds up with a push of a button. Off/on button easy to locate and use. Worked pretty good on the stairs. Great for vacuuming under the beds, couch, etc. Cons are: Cord is way too short. Also, no matter if I was pulling the canister on carpet or on the wood floor, the vacuum constantly turns itself over. When it turns over it will either turn over on the off/on button or...

Great little helper
I received this vacuum when I purchased the wood floor upright vacuum and this thing works great! I even sucked up some rocks by accident(oops). Great for quick clean ups or getting the stairs. I have wood floors through out my home and this perfect. Although I wish the cord was a bit longer, it's great suction and power makes up for that. Filter is easy to clean and re-assemble. I use our wet/dry vac to clean the little filter and it does the job. Oreck makes quality, light and powerful vacuums.
very powerful yet light to carry
I have no rugs in my house.
This is a perfect fit. Very powerful, wish cord was longer.
length of cord is only reason why I did not get it more stars
