Excellent Product
I have tried other Steam mops. Shark's steam was good but built with low quality materials and the plastic broke just assembling it. Steam fast mop never worked, period. I was reluctant to try this one since I had bad luck before but the Dirt Devil name is what made me decide to try again. I was really looking for something more compact but glad I got this instead. The steam is strong and can be adjusted so there is more or less steam. My Oven had baked on guck on the bottom for years and within 20 minutes the steamer and wire brush had it clean and looking brand new and without that nasty oven cleaner chemical smell. The cleaner has a compartment to store all the attachments which is nice and the steamer has a stand so you can store it upright with the mop handle and head attaches to the steamers main body. Dirt Devil Steam Canister
I really wanted to love this machine, because I have so many uses for it, but unfortunately, I don't. I'll start will all the PRO's of this machine. Compact size, VERY easy to use, easy storage, clever design for tool storage, large wheels for maneuvering around easy, and a variety of cleaning tools. The CON's are more important to the purchase. The steam is very wet, which makes using the steamer messy. The hose fills with condensation quickly at each pause, and then spits water all over when you begin again. The tools look like they came from a toy set and did not hold up under use. The tools are really poor quality. I know the steamer is under $100.00, but it really should perform better than it did.
Good start to your cleaning
This is my first steam cleaner. I just know that when I clean the hotter the water the better (and easier) the cleaning. So I have thought about steam cleaners alot.

The one thing that have come to realize is that most of these are just steamers not steam cleaners. What I mean by this is all that is used is water, so you will still have to soap up the surfaces before steaming. (Now I use the Lysol Antibacterial - not for the antibacterial so much but it is the best grease cutter I have ever seen!)

Under the tank is a holder for a number of attachments from three small brushes (one of them metal) to a window attachment. So make sure you look for these. The large floor attachment and hose and extension are in the box with the canister. The floor attachement hooks directly onto the hose/extension but the other attachments just fit over the nozzle and occasionally fall of during use.

I used this to clean my kitchen over the weekend, including cabinet...

I couldn't find these in any local stores, and so I decided to look on amazon.com. There they were in a 10-pak for a very reasonable price. generic vs brand name
Be aware: Even though they're advertised as "Dirt Devil Type F, by Dirt Devil", they're not. They're generic and I was sent 3 packs of 3. 9, not 10 bags. I complained to KillDirt, and after a few emails and a month went by, they finally sent genuine Dirt Devil bags. To their credit, KillDirt sent extra to make up for the delay. Maybe now they're shipping genuine DD bags--I noticed the price went up a bit.

Great Value - Perfect for shorter pile carpet and bare floors
I received my new Dirt Devil Multi-Cyclonic two days ago. Put it through its paces. It's better made (better build quality) than I thought a Dirt Devil would be. Very impressed. Cord is on the shorter side, but that's a small concession for a very reasonably priced vacuum. The brush bar in the Power Nozzle has some good, and one not so good quality issues.
For the good: the belt cannot break (geared belt) with a reset button if it jams. The height adjustment works perfectly, and I'm delighted there's a headlight (although a light on the front is not a deal breaker for me - it is for others). The brush roller is narrow in diameter - so you'll find yourself cleaning hair from it more so than if it was larger in diameter. The opening on the bottom of the Power Nozzle is also narrow - that's to optimize the pick up on bare floors, which it does superbly. I never saw any other power nozzle (with brush in OFF position) pick up as well on bare floors. However, on carpets, it's...

My Love / Hate Relationship with this Vac
Growing up my parents had a very expensive canister vac, and as a young girl I thought it was fun to vacuum, now it's NOT so much fun - and this will take some getting used to before I decide if I like this canister after using uprights for years. I have a 2 year old Dirt Devil upright and it has some similar features as this, such as the one-touch-to-empty dirt cup which I love. In general, uprights are easier to use because you don't have the canister tagging along behind you, getting caught on corners of furniture, and even the walls. However, the uprights are also heavier to push and can't go in every nook and cranny like a canister can.

This vacuum was easy to assemble - I didn't bother looking at the instructions to hook-up the handle/wand to the hose, and to the canister, it was easy to figure out just by looking at the various parts and snapping them together. However, as to vacuum use, I did read the manual and I wish they had made it a little easier such as larger...

Its well made, seems strong. The hose swivels at nearly every connection. The lock to leave the power brush upright seems fragile and will probably be the first thing to break.

The light does not come on if the brush roll is not on. The vacuum is sufficiently wide, so the suction is not even on the entire width. This will be the problem for vacuums will no powered brushroll. Even on hard surfaces it is better to keep the brush roll on since it helps in picking up something struck beneath furniture..

The canister is very easy to clean, cord seems very short and noise level is less than my old bissell bagless. Suction power is quite good. Even though my old bissell also did not loose any suction, it's just a matter of keeping the bagless ones clean.

The only cons which I see are

Really gets pet hair but a bit awkward
For my 800 square-foot apartment with tile floors this thing works perfectly when I'm vacuuming. I have a cat that sheds quite a bit and other vacuums have not really done as complete a job as this one at getting all the hair and dander. The long tube and extendable arm are both helpful, especially for getting under/behind furniture and allowing you to get farther into a room without having to unplug the vacuum and move.

The biggest problem is the weird shape which makes it hard to store and especially the lack of an attachments holder anywhere on the vacuum itself. Additionally, the arm has a place for two of the attachments but they don't stay very well and sometimes fall out onto the ground while I'm vacuuming. But the convenience of rolling this thing around and emptying the whole canister with one push of a button is really nice.

Functionally this vacuum is amazing, so I feel bad only giving it three stars but it's just too complicated dealing with the...

Works well, but is not perfect
The Dirt Devil Purpose for Pets Canister Vacuum works well once you have it set up to your liking. From unboxing to first use took about 15 minutes. The vacuum comes with lots of attachments, that seem a little overwhelming at first. I actually had to look at the set up instructions to understand the function of each attachment. I wish Dirt Devil put labels on the attachments themselves for easy reference.

I have a short coated hound dog (short thick bristles) and a flat coated (long thin bristles) retriever. The Dirt Devil was able to pick up both types of fur with ease using the pet attachment. I was able to easily remove fur from the crevices of a leather couch and also a velvet chair. The pet attachment has a little brush at the end, to help pull the fur off the fabric and I was amazed how much fur was on the side of the chair.

Using the hose alone, I was able to get dust and fur out from under my couch. I have hardwood floors and the hose suction...
It really SUCKS! But no attachment storage?
We have a dog who sheds in large tufts of tumbleweeds. They drift around the house, getting caught in corners, under furniture, and attached to various fixtures. No ordinary vacuum will do, so we usually opt for a "pet" vacuum.

What we like about the vacuum:
- Suction Control - Sometimes you don't need to go full tilt!
- Floor attachment - It glides effortlessly over just about any surface.
- Effectiveness - This thing pulled up all kinds of pet hair as well as larger objects like cheerios, etc within 2 passes.
- Size - It's light and compact enough for even my wife to drag around the house, thus ensuring she shares in the vacuuming responsibilities.

What we don't like:
- Canister - The canister lever to release and empty is not in a good location and usually gets our hands all dirty. Also, if you have pets, it doesn't fully empty if it's got pet hair inside without sticking your hand in to scoop out clumps of trapped hair in the inner...

Terrific Performer and Outstanding Value
Approximately three years ago, my $200 Eureka vac finally stopped working and I purchased the featherlite to replace it. At that time I lived in a 1,400 sf apartment. Now I live in a 2,500 sft home.

For the past three years, this vacuum has served our family well. Pros:

1. Inexpensive. $40 or less in most places.
2. It picks up dirt, fuzz (and legos) as well or better than any other vacuum I've ever used. Really. Just change the bag when it gets full.
3. Light weight. It's very easy to manuver and my younger kids can use it.
4. Simplicity. This is a basic vac. It's easy to change the bag, wind the cord, and pull hair/crud out of the roller if necessary.
5. It's got a bag. This is a personal preference, but every bagless upright I've ever used creates a small dust storm when you empty it. The bag system on this one works well.

Cons:
1. I don't expect it to go past 5 years. It's clearly designed for low cost and...

works fine after a year
I was suprised to see that some of the other reviews portray this vacuum as useless. I bought mine from Target a year ago and it works wonderfully. Only complaints is that it's still pretty 'clunky' to carry around and that when you want to use the attachments it's hard to get the hose out. I've gone through a Shark brand vacuum that broke after 2 uses and an Orek XL that ate it's own cord but couldn't pick up Cheerios that my daughter spilled. I've had bad luck with vacuums but this one is doing just fine after 200+ uses.
Can suck the chrome off a trailer hitch but breaks
UPDATE After about 5 Months the part of the hose that connects to the motor ( see my pic) has had a piece break off that locks on the little peg; and now the end of the hose has a vertical crack in it where the attachments would connect. My concern all along after assembling this was the durability factor.

I have a rainbow canister that I have decided to retire do the intensive assembly required for its operation. You have to fill the tank with water then place it it's caddy, place the motor on top of tank and then attach the hose from the power head to the motor. Then do the reverse to empty the water from the tank. So I decided to get an upright that you can just plug in and go.

I'm not sold yet on the bag less uprights so I decided to go with the old tried and true one's with a bag. I first looked at the Eureka Upright Vacuum Cleaner 1934A, had an impressive review but no attachments and only a 5 amp motor and a little more than I wanted to spend...

Not A Full-Fledged Cleaning Solution, But A Handy And Lightweight Supplement
Perhaps the Dirt Devil Express Compact Bagged Canister (SD30035) oversells itself as the ideal solution for floor to ceiling vacuuming. It clearly is NOT. But from my perspective, considering the size and the power of the unit, that would be a pretty lofty expectation to fulfill. In no way did I think or anticipate that this tiny little baby (it's the approximate size of an average frozen turkey) was going to replace my larger, bulkier, and more powerful floor vacuums. This handy and lightweight Dirt Devil is a supplementary cleaning product, and I love it. Again, to be clear, if I was trying to vacuum big rooms with this alone--this would be a nightmare. But it is terrific for places I don't want to lug a bigger piece of machinery.

Here are a few examples of where the Dirt Devil Express has improved my life (and my back):

As good as any small canister I've used but with style...
Four stars is the "I Like It" rating.

This Express has the same 12amp motor as all the other vacuums in the Dirt Devil line so don't think you'll get more suction even with their other models. MIGHT be some vacuum chamber design differences that improve suction in the various types but they don't show you the insides anywhere I've found. It will suck your hand tight to the open nozzle with a feeling pretty much the same as our Eureka upright sweeper.

Awesome little vacuum
After hours of reading reviews on Amazon, I bought the Dirt Devil Express Compact Bagged Canister. I'M SO GLAD I DID. I have only used it once, but I love it already. I live in a one bedroom, 700 square foot apartment in NYC with wood floors and a couple of area rugs. The vacuum really sucks up dirt, lint, and dust bunnies from under furniture, and does a very impressive job on the rugs! I immediately ditched my bagless upright, which is disgusting to clean (can someone please tell me what the point of a bagless vacuum is besides giving people allergy attacks?) It's lightweight and easy to handle. And really, you can't beat the price for a 12 amp motor. I rarely write product reviews, but I felt I just had to share my experience!

With so many on offer these days, it is great to have a name you can trust. This item is certainly that and will be a perfect buy. The distributor have added some great touches and this equals great value.

Adequate for light use
The SD 30050 is a fairly inexpensive and unremarkable canister vacuum. Weighing in at 10lbs, you're not going to break your back carrying it up and down the stairs.
It comes with standard attachments and features: a telescopic chromed hose, a crevice tool, a small brush, a hardfloor tool, a rotating carpet brush and a small rotating brush.
The power cord is self-winding and works well. It is equipped with a continuously variable power control on the canister as well as a bleed valve on the handle.
Unfortunately, but not surprisingly considering its low price, the rotating brushes are powered by suction. In plain English, they stop rotating as soon as you start needing them, so they're completely useless for most serious tasks. Another weak point is the "onboard storage" for the tools: the manual attempts to convince you that it's reasonable to keep the small brush and the crevice tool clipped to a plastic piece which itself clips around the handle. Powerful, compact, lightweight, variable speed.
This lightweight and powerful vacuum cleaner takes up very little of the valuable space in your home, but with its variable speed motor it does quite an effective job. It's also fairly economically priced at about $130 or less at the time of this writing. It comes with all the attachments one would expect with any good vacuum and most of them can be conveniently stored on the handle. Dirt is stored in a disposable bag. The power cord can be retracted at the touch of a button. The large power button can be easily activated with your foot to save bending down. A quality and versatile item at an affordable price.
Great value for the power and versatility of this vacuum
I want to start with an issue that others have complained about because it was not one for us: suction. It was - and has been - sufficient for us. I will continue to monitor that and provide updates if needed. But all I can do is give my experiences after using this in varied situations and on different surfaces and furniture.

I am very picky about vacuums and have gone through many which didn't hold up over time. So I tested this one repeatedly before writing this review - on bare floors (wood and laminate), carpet (shag and low pile), blinds, sofas, and chairs. I also tested the crevice tool extensively.
